Reverse Crocheting Again?

Have many of you tried the process where you use a double ended crochet hook and two different colors of yarn at the same time to make a double sided item? Yes I've had all my medicine today. I learned this ages ago but like everything else it just got stuck back somewhere and fell off the face of the earth never to be seen again. Until yesterday. I was suppose to be working on a baby blanket for a friend of mine but my fingers got to itching to do something else which usually gets me into trouble. So I started digging around for some little something that would be a quick to make item, but instead I ran across my hook. Suddenly my little brain woke up and I thought, "I haven't done this in a long time, I need to do it now." So off I went on an adventure of different colors that ended up being just a strip of fabric, what will it grow up to be? Lord only knows 'cause I sure don't. If you have not done this procedure before you really should give it a try. The video below is made by the lady that invented this idea, and she is a hoot to listen too. This way of stitching creates a thick very stretchy piece of crocheting that looks and feels like thick knitting. As you can see in my example one side is yellow and one side is purple, this is great for potholders, hats, scarves, and afghans made either in squares or in strips. So don't think I've gone off the deep end because this is such a simple way to work it will surprise you. Watch Mary and you will see, then check around the internet because there are lots of free patterns, or you can just make up your own. It really is easy, would I lead you astray????

  1. Hi Molly- What a cute blog name. I cannot knit or crochet at all. My mother tried to teach me when I was younger, but I never got the hang of it. She made some beautiful things for my daughters and me over the years that I will always treasure. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  4. Just watched the video, and wow.. I will definitely have to watch it again sometime to try it.. At least for a potholder, or trivet. Out of all the hooks I have though, I don't have a double ended hook!.. Guess I might have to order one, as I don't recall my local Walmart having one (will double check!). I think you're right about the woman teaching this... She DOES sound like a hoot!... Oh, and before I forget, MY shoe size sounds about the same as yours! I got married in a size 4 pair of shoes! I can buy my sneakers in a child's size 3!.. Well, as long as they don't have Tinkerbell all over the sides of them! (0; It gets hard buying shoes, because even a 5 had better run small in order to fit my foot without slipping and falling off!.. Thanks for stopping by my tea party today! ((hugs)) ~tina

  10. HI, I love the peg game you have on your bookworm blog. I have the same game in my google site. I also have the book you are talking about today projects for 24 hours. Thanks for your kind remarks, and yes you can come stay with me for as long as you like. LOL! Oh and I have done the double ended hook crochet before too. It is fun but a bit tedious for me.

  11. I'm learning so much today from you...first your lighted hook and now this.
I've had one of these hooks forever and could never figure out what you did with it LOL!
I originally picked it up when I wanted to learn tunisian and this was all I could find.
I'll have to sit down and make an effort to try it out.
Oh and I love looking through all your wonderful blog links...some I know but there are few new ones in there too.
    hugs suki
