I just love YouTube, do you? I can read instructions over and over but still not quite get it. As the old saying goes, "A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words" comes to mind because I can watch a video and BINGO! I understand what they were trying to tell me. Now I was trying to get the Flat Braid Joining for granny squares to work and I could get just so far and then my brain would quit on me. I just could not understand where to go from there. Naturally I head over to YouTube and yep, I found my answer. These 4 videos were a lifesaver (mmm candy!) okay back to thinking. These videos were just so easy for me that I thought maybe they could help some of you also. Now I know that there is no reason for me to post them here when y'all can easily find them yourself, but this way they are at least in an easy place to find for me too. Of course I had to try this procedure out just to make sure I understood it, now did I have 4 squares that matched....NO. Did I have 4 squares that I was going to use anyway....YES. I was very impressed with the ease of making this and I know this is going to sound dumb but the Flat Braid joining made me think of lattice boards. No thanks, I've already had my medicine for today. I don't know why but the way it was so lacy and the color of the squares just made me think of spring flowers and since I was using white yarn that made me think of lattice boards. I must admit that I could think of times that I would need the support of joining one square straight to another square, stability reasons for one. I think I would be concerned that the lacy connection might get stretched out of whack. But I really do like the look of it. The reason there are 4 videos is because each one shows a particular step to the finished project. So watch them and see what you think (lattice boards), and if you decide to give it a try let me give you a tip. Use 4 squares that are the same size, okay? Take care.

Thanks for the videos, Molly! Yes, we could find them ourselves, but it's so much nicer when someone points us in the right direction. I'll have to check out this technique. Keri
ReplyDeleteThanks. I have tried to figure out how to do this before. Now I may just try it the next time I make a granny square afghan.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much my friend for making this so easily accessible to us! Yes I will watch them and refer to them. As you know I have an afghan to join. Maybe I'll use this technique!
ReplyDeleteI just started using the flat braid method myself just a few weeks ago and love it! I've never been good at squares and totally hate trying to join them, I can never get it right. The flat braid is perfect.
ReplyDeleteCome join us for WIP Wednesday at http://macrochet.blogspot.com - you'll see my latest project using that method.
Wow.. This was interesting!.. Thanks for sharing the videos! ~tina
ReplyDeleteHi Molly,
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic video. I think we are taking more interest because you pointed it out to us! Everyone will be trying it now.
I've sent you an email. Thank you so much for donating the squares for the blankets for the Elderly. Very kind of you!

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI agree! Youtube helped me to dispel the mystery of how to make decent crochet flowers.
